Initial Visit Details
"What one has to do usually can be done." ~ Eleanor Roosevelt
Preview of Initial Evaluation and Suggested "dress-code":
As mentioned under services, the Initial Evaluation will begin with a conversation clarifying information from intake forms, dietary intake, signs, symptoms, existing diagnoses and health history, plus a chance to hear your story, what you've tried, how well/which parts worked and how you hope to benefit going forward. Then we will explore physical clues to your nutritional status...
If possible, for this part please wear a comfortable outfit that shows or can easily be adjusted to show your head, arms including from fingernails to underarms and beginnings of shoulders and lower legs from toenails to knees. If possible, it is also helpful to observe nails without nailpolish, skin without make-up and hair without gel or leave-in conditioner.
Rings around the irises, cracks in the tounge, ridges or spots on the nails, paleness in many places, pimple-like sores in arm-pits and sparse lower-leg hair and outer eyebrow hair, just to name a very few features, can provide clues as to what nutrients are highly likely lacking or possibly worth quantitatively testing through lab-work.
While the following tools are not necessary, if you happen to ALREADY own a finger oxygen monitor, upper arm blood pressure cuff or lean body mass monitor please mention this at your appointment.
Are any lab tests covered by insurance?
The short answer is: that depends upon your insurance. The long answer is: at this time, they are not covered IF they are ordered by you or by me; however, with your permission, I can make a request to your primary care to order some of the tests related to nutrient needs and whatever portion your plan covers will be covered because the request to the lab will come from a practitioner who takes insurance. You may also make the request directly to your doctor and then share the lab results with me in your private google drive folder.
